Many factors can cause red, swelling and itchy eyes, including insomnia, too much time in front of computer and television, allergies or weak immune system. Fortunately, there are natural home remedies which can help you to get rid of these ″red eye″ symptoms.
Stir 3 tablespoons of honey with two cups of boiling water or milk. Let it cool slightly and then apply a few drops in the red eye two or three times a day. Also, you can soak cotton gauze in this liquid and apply it as a liner in the eye.
Mix 2 tablespoons of powdered turmeric with 200 ml of water. Use this composition as liner on the affected eye. Turmeric is strong natural antibiotic which can be used for inflammation treatment in any part of the body.
Put the fennel seed into some water and heat it up a little. You can use this warm liquid as liner to reduce the redness in your eyes.
Cut a piece of potato and apply it onto the affected eye. Hold it there for at least 20 minutes. Repeat this procedure at least three days or until there is no more redness into your eye(s).
- Baking soda
Mix one tablespoon of baking soda with 200 ml of water. Use this solution as a means of coatings. This preparation will reduce redness, swelling and irritation of the eyes.

- Warm and cold coatings
Warm coatings will reduce your swollen eye and the cold ones will alleviate the redness of the eye. Warning: Use separate coating for both of the eyes in order to stop the infection from spreading.
- Herbal drinks
Stir calendula extract with water and wash your eyes with it. Also, you can mix a tablespoon of dried chamomile with water. Use these mixtures to reduce the redness of your eyes.
Yogurt is very effective in fighting infections. Apply it in form of coating to get rid of the redness of your eyes.
- Lemon juice
Dilute the lemon juice with some water and apply coatings dipped in this solution onto the irritated eye. This will help you reduce the irritation of your eyes.
- Coconut oil
Dip a cotton wool in some coconut oil and place it around your eyelids. It will reduce scratching and the redness of the eye.
- Salt water
You can make your own natural eye-drops. Put one tablespoon of salt in 200 ml of water. Put a few drops in each of your eyes.
- Mother`s milk
Put a couple of drops of the purest and healthiest milk into the irritated eye. You will get rid of the redness for sure.
