Developed in India, yoga is a spiritual practice that has been evolving for the last 5,000 years or so. The original yogis were reacting, in part, to India’s ancient Vedic religion, which emphasized rituals. The yogis wanted a direct spiritual experience — one on one — not symbolic ritual. So they developed yoga.





Yoga means “union” in Sanskrit, the classical language of India.


A little yoga can go a long way. Yoga makes a difference to how we feel mentally and physically, which is why more than 20 million people practice yoga in the USA today. Yoga is a system of poses, movements and specific breathing techniques that benefit the whole body so that your posture, strength, balance, flexibility and even self-confidence improve. Yoga offers a wide range of approaches and can be adapted to suit the individual’s needs.



Many of us live with far more physical and mental tension than we are perhaps even aware of. The practice of yoga brings us not only to a greater awareness of our bodies, but also provides many simple ways to help relieve the effects of stress on the body and mind.


Yoga or meditation can’t solve all our difficulties but the practice of yoga over time can improve our health and well-being, help us to relax and shift our perspective, and appreciate the day to day blessings that may come our way.
