In latest years, there has been a lot of writing and talking about the harmful effects of sugar for the health. Nowadays we entered more sugar than ever before. Although once thought that fat is the worst enemy of human health, the sugar can take its place.
Fortunately, the damage caused by the intake of sugar can easily be prevented and even restored. Most diets give results in months, but reducing consumption of sugar can show results almost immediately.
A new study administered to kids shows that are noted improvements in health after only ten days of the termination of the consumption of sugar. The study was conducted by Dr. Robert Lustig and his team of researchers from the University of California.
Researchers were able to lower triglyceride levels up to 33 units on average, and the level of deleterious cholesterol dropped by 5 units. In only ten days, all kids participating in the study had cut drastically their risk of getting type 2 diabetes.
Important thing is to know that the all calories are not the same. 100 calories of sugar are not the same as 100 calories of cabbage. Regrettably this is not what some companies want you to be aware off and they spend millions of dollars advertising products that are low in calories but have a high sugar level and make you think that it is healthy. Actually counting calories is important. We need to focus on the components in our food. Sugar, by itself, does not contain fat, but it is kept as fat in our body.
Foundation “Heart and stroke” recommended that the intake of sugar should be up to 10% in the daily amount of calories, or about 12 grams. That is approximately like one can of soda. After all, we do not need added sugar in the diet since they have no nutritional value. The only sugar we need is the natural one. Yet the added sugars come in all forms – syrups, juices, sweets and candies, among others.
How to give up sugar?
Perhaps you already realize, but sugar is addictive. Did you ever tried to live without it? Then you know how difficult it is. Some research has shown that sugar can be addictive like some drugs. In order to quit, you must be strong and to survive.
The most difficult part is the beginning. You need to try to hold on without sugar consumption over a period of ten days for start. You need to avoid juices, coffees and other drinks that have hidden sugars. To adjust the blood sugar enter protein in each meal, particularly in the morning for breakfast. Besides protein, you need and carbohydrates, which can be found in many vegetables.
Be always ready for the crisis and keep a product that is tasty, but not containing added sugar when you feel that you really need to pause.
At last, the lack of sleep can affects your appetite hormones. Therefore, always sleep at least 8 hours during the day.
